PSBA February Newsletter

2 Mar 2026 10:38 AM | Anonymous

Greetings from the PSBA President!

Dear Friends,

I like to think of PSBA as a community. It's a community that I am happy to be a part of and I hope that you are as well. We are grateful at your response for our request for donations. Donations can be more than money, it can be time and talent as well. Please consider how your skills and talents might assist our growing and vibrant community. Thank you.

As always you can contact me at benjisnewadventure@gmail.com with suggestions, comments and questions.

Belinda Hill

PSBA Members’ Spotlight

The PSBA Spotlight Artist for February is Pat Chupa.

Pat has been a book artist, bookbinder, and writer for more than 30 years. Her works now reside with private collectors, in the Artists' Book Collection of the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Archives and Special collections Artists Books, Collins Memorial Library, and at the Hypatia Trust in Penzance, Cornwall.

In keeping with PSBA’s 15-year anniversary celebration, we are spotlighting Pat Chupa this month. In 2010, Pat attended the initial meeting organized by Jane Carlin to gauge interest in forming a book arts organization. Forty people answered the call, the interest was clear! And the rest is history. Pat has been an active member of PSBA ever since, including serving on the board for four years. In 2021, she authored the ten-year history of PSBA that is available in the 2021 Exhibition catalog.

Pat clearly loves the craft and our members have found it fun to work with her on projects. In recent years her eyesight has started to fail. She can only do detailed work for about two hours a day now, but in those two hours she accomplishes a lot. Looking forward to seeing her book in this year's exhibit.

You'll find her Spotlight interview here.

Previous spotlight profiles are here.

PSBA Remembers Bonnie Egbert

We have received notice of the passing of Bonnie Egbert. She was one of our founding members. Lucia Harrison captures Bonnie’s spirit in these remarks: “Bonnie was a founding member of PSBA and on the board. She brought handmade gifts for us at each board meeting— like weather grams. She was Rochelle Monner's right hand person for Play Dates. She made most of the materials used in the play dates at Rochelle’s studio. She was so generous. I remember going to her summer cabin on Hood Canal for a board retreat. She was a wonderful person, so vital in helping to create our community.”
