PSBA Open House

Canceled

Collins Memorial Library,

the University of Puget Sound

Sunday, January 9, 2022, 11:30-1:30

The event is free, but registration is required

This is an informal open house to provide everyone the opportunity to visit and connect with one another.  Unlike previous events, there will be no food or drink and there is no formal program.  However, we will have a series of “stations” for you to visit and a chance to contribute to our “Spontaneous Raffle Basket” effort!  Masks and proof of vaccinations are required.   Here’s how it will work:

 1.       Everyone who joins the open house should bring a book related item to add to our raffle baskets.   Ideas can range from a sheet of decorative paper, glue, ribbons, a bone folder, a small handmade item, etc.…  These items will be collected as you enter the Library and our “raffle basket team” will assemble baskets in real time as well as sell raffle tickets!   The raffle will be held at 1:15.  This effort is in lieu of our annual fundraising effort.   Please participate to help generate funds towards PSBA programs.  And, if you are unable to join us on the 9th, not a problem, you can always donate online.

2.      We will have number of stations for you to visit.  Feel free to wander at your leisure.

a.      Renew your membership and make donations by check or credit card or simply renew online and follow the instructions in the link.

b.      Visit Science Stories before it closes and have the chance to some of the books out of the cases and meet the artists. https://blogs.pugetsound.edu/sciencestories/

c.       On display in the Collins Library Reading Rooms:

Over the Moon:  A Collaborative Art Project Created by Forty Artists of the San Diego Book Arts organization.  Some of you had the chance to join an informal gathering outside the Library this past summer when  Barbara Ruys and Laurel Moorhead delivered this wonderful gift to the Collins Library.  Now everyone will have a chance to view this incredible work!

Books from North Redwoods Book Arts Guild  (NORBAG)Artist Peggy Mars:  Many of you have participated in our book exchanges.  The exchange project was brought to us by Bonnie Julien, who is also an active member of the NORBAG organization that has fostered collaboration and sharing by book exchanges for many years.  This past year one of the leaders of the NORBAG organization passed away.  Peggy Marrs was a long-time vital member of NORBAG and a prolific artist.  Collins Library is the proud recipient of a collection of her charming books that will serve as inspiration for future exchanges as well as excellent examples for those new to the book arts.

d.      Visit our Book Arts Studio in the lower level of the Library:   During the pandemic, we transformed an empty room into a Book Arts Studio.  Visit the space which we hope will be a destination for many PSBA members in the future.  Mark Hoppmann will demonstrate our recently restored Iron Hand Press, have fun printing with mini 3D printing presses, and using our handmade pens ( courtesy of Mark Hoppmann’s skill and Dorothy McCuistion’s bamboo)

3.      Everyone will gather in the lobby of the library at 1:15 for the exciting Raffle Drawings!
