Paper Lantern with a Twist

A Gift of Light FREE workshop for all PSBA Members

Instructor: Gina Pisello

Date/Time: Friday, November 12, 4:00 PM

Location: Online via Zoom

Participation is FREE to members, but you must register to receive the Zoom link

In this one-hour class you will learn to make a paper lantern with folds and twists that will light up the nights this holiday season. You can use many kinds of paper for this project so pull out something fancy! Best of all, the lantern folds flat so you can mail it to someone special and give them the gift of light as well.

About the Instructor: Gina Pisello is a paper engineer and book artist. Her work consists of original book structures, altered books, and paper sculptures. She explores themes of time, personal history, and light and shadow. She has taught book arts for over 16 years, focusing mainly on book structures she has invented. She has been a member of PSBA for 7 years.

To get ready for this online workshop, create a clear working space and gather the following:

Tools:

  • ·         Scissors
  • ·         Bone Folder
  • ·         Scoring Tool
  • ·         Chipboard (davey board or binder’s board) cut to 12 x ½ inch. If you have a quilting ruler or ½ inch steel rule it can be used instead.

Materials:

  • ·         Battery operated tea light
  • ·         6 x 12 inch cardstock or thicker handmade paper with decorative embellishments. This project works best with paper that varies from front to back. You can always embellish one side to make it different if you start with plain paper. A small battery powered votive candle will keep your lantern bright during coming dark winter days.

Unryu paper works well for this, especially if it is laminated. You can order this paper at Mulberry Paper and More (https://www.mulberrypaperandmore.com/p-5908-thai-reversible-unryu-paper-purpleagean-gree n.aspx) or check out Washi Arts (https://www.washiarts.com/dyed-and-colored-washi/gold-metallic-unryu-card)

Remember, the Workshop is free, but you must register to receive the Zoom link!  The Zoom link will be sent to registrants 2-3 days prior to the workshop.
