Instructor Bio:

Ann Storey, PhD, loves to teach and share her enthusiasm for art. She is Faculty Emerita at The Evergreen State College where she taught art history, art and interdisciplinary classes for many years. She also managed performing and visual art programs in north central Washington and the Pacific Northwest for over ten years. She does book arts, watercolor painting, mosaics and ceramics. She loves to garden, hike, travel and kayak.

Workshop Description:

Create a beautiful, functional sewn book that can be used as a personal journal, sketchbook, travel book or a special gift. The Coptic stitched book is one of the earliest forms of the codex. We will alternate the Coptic stitch with the French Link stitch to create a book with a decorative exposed binding. The finished book is extremely sturdy and easy to use since it lies completely flat when opened. Once you learn the technique you can vary the size of the book to almost any dimension and use almost any type of paper-making it a versatile structure. Each student will leave with a completed blank book filled with 80 lb. Strathmore drawing paper and a handsome cover. All materials will be provided.

*Becky Frehse’ Studio in Tacoma, address and directions will be sent to participants prior to the workshop. Please note that the studio is on the second floor and there is no elevator.
