12th Annual Puget Sound Book Artists'
Members' Exhibition
"The Alchemy of Collaboration"
Wednesday, July 19th 12:00-1:00pm
A Zoom Presentation
The event is free but Registration is required
During the difficult pandemic days of 2020-2021, Anthea Karanasos Hubanks offered an inspiring zoom workshop to PSBA members called “Book Artist Alchemy: The Art of Weaving Words & Images”. Energized by the workshop, seven of the participants decided to continue working together to continue improving their writing skills and to support each other’s creative practice. The members are Sally Alger, Abbie Birmingham, Debbi Commodore, Dorothy McCuistion, Diane Miller, Jan Ward and Jessie Wing. The group has been meeting monthly since May 2021 and has evolved into a group of friends as well as artists. Debbi Commodore was curious about a printmaking process she’d seen in the work of Abbie Birmingham and the group arranged to meet at Becky Frehse’s Tacoma studio and spent two sessions experimenting with the mono print screen print process and collaboratively creating imagery.
Given the PSBA exhibit theme of “Collaboration”, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to create a collaborative book that would be submitted by the group to the PSBA member exhibit, and so the “Meeting the Alchemist” book emerged. In the zoom presentation, the group will be presenting details of their experience, with emphasis on the elements that contributed to a successful collaboration and how the experience has positively impacted the work of each participant.
The Zoom Link will be made available 1-2 days prior to the event.
