Transforming Knowledge: Altered Books
Reception
Monday, April 1st, 5pm - 6:30pm
Collins Library, the University of Puget Sound
Exhibition Dates: February 1 - May 12, 2019
Join us in celebration of an exhibition featuring altered encyclopedia volumes made by artists from Tacoma and the South Sound. Artists were given a discarded volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica from the Collins Library and asked to transform the volume into a unique work of art. The selection of an encyclopedia volume was intentional as it symbolizes a comprehensive summary of information from all branches of knowledge. This exhibit provides the opportunity to reflect upon our relationship with the printed word and the future of libraries. We are grateful to the participating artists who have transformed the discarded volumes into new and vibrant works of art that reflect a rebirth of ideas. The exhibit also features photographs from local artist Sharon Styer as well as a number of books about books, knowledge, and libraries. For those who have not yet visited the exhibition, be sure to read the Review in the Tacoma Weekly.
To add to the fun, be sure to visit the Edible Food Festival and Family Fun Night on the same evening.
