Tacoma, WA — Puget Sound Book Artists (PSBA) proudly marks a milestone year with its 15th Annual Members’ Exhibition, a celebration of creativity, community, and the art of the book. Centered on the theme “15”, the 2026 exhibition committee invited artists to reflect on the past, honor achievements, and imagine the future.
In 2011, 26 artists participated in PSBA’s first show, exploring a wide range of formats and materials. This year’s exhibition reflects not only the growth of our organization but also the expanding creative voices within our membership. Artists interpreted the theme of “15” in a variety of thoughtful and inventive ways. Some of the approaches include exploring the symbolism of the number itself; posing and responding to fifteen questions, engaging with both contemporary and historical issues, describing collections of artifacts/specimens as well as reflecting on fifteen years of friendship and artistic practice.
Jane Carlin, one of the PSBA founders and a member of this year’s curatorial committee, reflects on the organization’s remarkable journey: “It’s really gratifying to think back over the last fifteen years and reflect upon all the accomplishments of this organization. When I first arrived in Tacoma, I was hopeful it would be possible to form a book arts community—the growth and influence of PSBA is beyond my wildest dreams! To think we have held fifteen exhibitions is simply amazing, and it’s wonderful to see this reflected in this year’s entries.”
Mark Hoppmann, a former PSBA President and member of the 2026 curatorial team, reflects on the evolution of PSBA: “Our inaugural exhibition in 2011 was curated by Lucia Harrison and the late MalPina Chan to whom this exhibition is dedicated. In their opening statement they wrote, “Artists' Books by nature are intimate, interactive, and engage the reader.’ That observation remains true today as we share the work of 69 artists in this milestone exhibition.”
We warmly invite the public to join us in celebrating fifteen years of art, collaboration, and community.
